LEADING BEYOND THE HIERARCHY: Promoting Success Through Relationships

Are your employees unhappy?  Are you seeing a high turnover rate?  Is organizational morale and/or productivity down?  If so, it might be time to step away from that hierarchical method of leadership and try a more collegial approach.  Don’t worry—there’s no need for ping pong tables in the break room and pool parties every Friday (although that could be fun).  Through authentic stories of comedic failure, challenge, and eventually triumph, Lynsy will share how relationship building is the top skill managers must possess to improve employee attitudes, loyalty, and overall success.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Compare Bolman & Deal’s Hierarchical and Collegial organizational framework

  • Explore ways to invest time in employees and make them feel valued

  • Discover opportunities to relate to employees and improve credibility

  • Examine options for gaining colleagues’ trust

  • Learn to increase organizational morale, loyalty, and productivity through relationship building

Recommended Audience: Management/Supervisors

Evolving Through Options

Many organizations are afraid of change.  We often live by the phrase “That’s the way we’ve always done it”.  Unfortunately, it’s difficult to grow or improve as a person, a supervisor, or as an organization if we don’t break free from that philosophy.  Through humorous anecdotes, Lynsy will explore ways that we are being held back by our own traditions, how to look at our practices with a critical eye, and how to reduce the anxiety we feel regarding change.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Reduce anxiety surrounding change

  • Explore how to intentionally engage your entire team to improve organizational practices

  • Discover opportunities for growth without starting from scratch

  • Identify and remove barriers that are preventing forward progress

Recommended Audience:  Upper and Mid-Level Management

It’s Not a contest, it’s life

Do better, be stronger, do more, BE FIRST…when does it end?  Healthy competition can serve as great motivation at times.  When it comes to our life’s journey, however, we should never use others’ to benchmark our own.  Through battles with depression and the need to be perfect (in everyone else’s eyes), Lynsy struggled (and failed) to climb to the top of her academic, social, and professional circles.  It wasn’t until a friend dropped one hard-hitting piece of advice on her, that Lynsy’s entire outlook on life changed.  With laughter-filled stories of struggle and success, Lynsy will share how she finally stopped competing in everyone else’s race and became the champion of her own.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Recognize that your worth isn’t based on anyone else’s expectations

  • Discover what brings joy to your life

  • Explore ways to insert happiness into your daily routine

  • Examine what it would look like to say “No” more often

  • Learn to be more intentional with your time

Recommended Audience:  Anyone—great for wellness seminars, personal and professional development workshops, and more
